Born in Santa Monica, California, Dr. Vande Wydeven or “Dr. Van” as he is commonly called, received his bachelor's degree from Loyola Marymount University in 1980 and his doctor of optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in 1984. During this period, he gained experience working in a busy medical Ophthalmology practice specializing in cataract surgery, inspiring him to become a “therapeutic” optometrist trained to treat infective eye disease, glaucoma, manage diabetic eye disease, and cornange pre and post lasik and cataract surgery. In addition, he performs routine visual examinations on patients of all ages, contact lens fittings, including the hard to fit cases such as keratoconus.

Dr. Vande Wydeven has a special interest in sports vision having worked with various university athletic programs and numerous professional athletes over his 30+ years of practice.

Dr. Vande Wydeven has held numerous leadership positions in both the Los Angeles County Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. Dr. Vande Wydeven continues to stay current on the latest advances in eye and health care.

Family is of utmost importance to Dr. Van and he states “there’s no better day than being out doing something with the one’s you love”. He is an avid cyclist and enjoys numerous athletic activities in his spare time.
